Artist: Jean Béraud

Date: 1878

Title: La Loge

La Loge is an oil on canvas painting by the French artist Jean Béraud. Created in 1878, the painting depicts a woman and a man sitting in a box at the theater, watching the performance on stage. The woman is dressed in a fashionable evening gown and is wearing an opera cape, while the man is wearing a top hat and is smoking a cigar. The woman appears to be the main focus of the painting, with her face turned slightly towards the viewer, and her elegant posture suggesting a sense of poise and refinement.

Béraud was known for his depictions of life in Paris during the late 19th century, particularly scenes of fashionable society. La Loge captures the essence of this era, with its emphasis on elegance, refinement, and the pleasures of urban life. The painting's composition and use of light and color are also notable, with Béraud using a palette of soft, muted tones to create a sense of intimacy and sophistication. The play of light and shadow further enhances the atmosphere of the theater box, with the soft glow of the stage lights illuminating the faces of the two figures.

La Loge has become one of Béraud's most famous works and is considered a masterpiece of the Belle Époque era. The painting has been exhibited in museums around the world and is now part of the collection of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

The print you will receive is made from 100% cotton pulp, guaranteed to last hundreds of years without fading or discolouration.

Our pigment ink has longevity rates of over 100 years. We use eight different ink colours profiled to match the archival paper to achieve a perfectly colour accurate reproduction of the original art piece.

Our board mounted prints are the traditional way of displaying your artwork and provide added protection from warping in the frame over time. Board mounted prints can also be displayed without a frame.

The process of archival art mounting involves fixing your artwork to an acid-free substrate. This enables your print to sit flat, either directly onto a wall or in a frame. Made from 100% virgin fibre, with a 2mm thickness, board mounted prints are an exceptionally light and cost-effective mount for creating a beautiful flat print prior to framing.

Unmounted prints are printed onto the same exceptional fine art paper and will require framing.
